Island hopping in Thailand
On the 11th of November my plane went from Duesseldorf to Frankfurt and from there to Thailand, where I wanted to stay for one month. afterwards i wanted to go back to New Zealand, to
continue my voyage round the world with the bicycle. Now I stood at the airport in Duesseldorf and the lady of Lufthansa explained to me then with a sugar-sweet smile, that I would have to pay for my 6 kg over
luggage 214 euro. Of course I did not have choice, and paid the amount. Between Frankfurt and Bangkok I got then a average-moderate food on board and I was sure, that it would be the last time for me flying with
Lufthansa Airlines. The airport door in Bangkok opened, and the damp-hot sultriness air of the tropics struck me immediately. The first night I stayed with
friends and after 2 days my girlfriend came and brought me some travel equipment for my further travel plans. Together with her I wanted to set off on an island. Our choice fell because of
the bad weather in the south gulf of Thailand on ko lanta. This island was situated near Krabi in the Andaman Sea. After a 12 hour bus journey we achieved our goal, then from 2 till 4 daily we
were instructed in theory and practice and after a final theoretical test we recieved our dive license in our hands. After we had explored the island on a
rented motorcycle we decided to meet again to check out another island. Our next choice was the island of KO Chang located on the Cambodian border in the northern
region of the gulf of Thailand. Then we travelled by bus for 4 hours then transfered to the boat for the final part of the journey to KO CHANG.There we rented a motorcycle to
explore the island, as we struggled up a very steep climb the engine began making strange noises our speed was a snails pace, which caused us to laugh
ourselves silly. The weather on KO CHANG was lovely and warm and you could easily wear a t-shirt to dinner.WE went back to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand where we took
a bus to Ayutthaya. upon arrival at the bus station we were lucky enough to meet by chance a family who organised tours of the temple, they gave us special treatment telling us all the relevant
history of the area, and joining us in eating at quaint food stalls. We were treated more like locals than tourists, they were so friendly, and helpful. that afternoon we bussed it back to
Bangkok, where we spent some more time shopping and sightseeing. We arrived at the Bangkok airport with overpacked bags and suitcases
which were 15kilos overweight but We were not charged a single Baht, that pleased us very much, Then came the hard part saying goodbye to my friend, We spoke of our
adventures together and the good times we shared, then we wished each other happy times and safe journeys, and parted I walked towards the plane which would take me on
a 12 hour flight across the sea to another country. Far away where my faithfull bicycle once again awaited me.
